Palestinian prisoners suffer from eye problems in Israeli prisons

(MENAFN- The Peninsula) Ramallah: The director of the Palestinian Prisoners' Center for Studies, Raafat Hamdouna, today called for human rights and international pressure groups to pressure the Israeli occupation forces to treat eye patients from Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails and to provide the necessary medical personnel and periodic inspections to protect their eyes, and stop the state of decline in the absence of follow-up.

Hamdouna said in a statement that there are approximately 540 Palestinian prisoners, about 8.3% of the total number of prisoners, are suffering from various eye diseases that affect the cornea and retina, optic nerve and pathways of vision, lens disorders, confusion and deviation of vision and others.

Hamdouna attributed the reasons for the deterioration of the health situation, especially in the deterioration of the prisoners' vision, to the beating by their interrogators.

The Director of the Palestinian Prisoners' Center for Studies, called on international institutions, especially the International Red Cross, to invite eye specialists to follow up and treat the sick prisoners, as well as to provide glasses and replace them in less than two years as was previously done.

In a related context, the lawyer of Palestinian Detainees' Committee, Hanan Al Khatib, said today, that three prisoners were subjected to harsh conditions and inhumane arrest during their arrest and transportation to the Israeli interrogation centers.

On the other hand, the Israeli occupation forces opened today, the military gate at the entrance to the town of Beit Awwa in the occupied West Bank, after a closure of more than two months.

It is noteworthy that the occupation invokes false security pretexts to close the gate.
