Yemen says Iranian interference promotes chaos

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) JEDDAH, Oct 21 (KUNA) -- Yemeni Foreign Minister Abdulmalek Mekhlafi said Saturday Iran's interference was threatening security and promoting chaos in the region.

Mekhlafi, during a meeting with David Satterfield, US Acting Assistant Secretary, Bureau of Near Eastern Affairs, in Riyadh, said Iran sought to replace the "state in Yemen with Sects and the army with militias so its chaotic project continues." He reiterated that his government choice was to achieve peace and support UN efforts to overcome the stalemate, according to SPA news agency.

Satterfield met earlier with President Abd Rabbuh Mansour Hadi and discussed the political situation in Yemen.

The two officials said they were looking forward to achieving genuine peace in Yemen. (end) nh.bs
