(MENAFN- Pajhwok Afghan News) (Pajhwok): The or lower house of parliament on Saturday decided to hold a closed-door meeting with security officials summoned to the house following recent deadly attacks in the country.
More than 200 people were killed and 350 others wounded in militants' attacks in Paktia, Kandahar, Ghazni, Kabul and provinces over the last five days.
At least 45 people were killed and 235 others wounded in a attack on police headquarters of southeastern Paktia province. Forty-three Afghan National Army (ANA) soldiers were killed and nine others wounded in a similar attack on ANA base in Maiwand district of Kandahar province.
In a complex attack on Andar district of Ghazni province, 22 soldiers and five civilians were killed and around 50 others wounded.
A day earlier, 58 worshipers were killed including and children and 64 others wounded when Daesh or so called Islamic State (IS) fighters stormed Zaman in Dasht-I-Barchi area of the capital Kabul.
Nearly 30 civilians were killed and scores others wounded in another mosque attack in Dolina district of Ghor province. No groups so far claimed responsibility for this attack.
Wolesi Jirga summoned acting defense minister, Tariq Shah Bahrami, acting interior minister, Wais Ahmad Barmak and National Directorate of Security () chief, Masum Stanikzai to brief the lawmakers about increasing security problems in the country.
Speaker Abdur Raouf Ibrahimi said the government failed to ensure security and recent incidents in the country proved its failure. Senior security officials had been summoned to the house to clearly respond to public representatives, he said.
A number of Wolesi Jirga members said security institutions could not defuse enemy's plots despite the availability of intelligence information prior to an incident.
They said that detective and intelligence departments were unsuccessful. Acting defense minister and NDS chief later suggested the session should be continued in closed doors for discussing some important intelligence and security issues of the country.
The session went off-camera after most of the lawmakers approved the officials' suggestion.
However, Bashardost, a lower house member said that summoning acting officials was against the law. He then left the house in protest.
