West of Jeddah hit by earthquake


(MENAFN) West of Jeddah city in Saudi Arabia witnessed a major earthquake measuring 3 on the Richter scale on Tuesday, according to the Saudi Geological Society.

The shake occurred on the Red Sea Opening Axis at a distance of 91 km west of Jeddah recorded by the monitoring stations of the National Center for Seismology and Volcanology in which Richter monitor read level 3.

However, the quake was not felt in any of the coastal cities near the earthquake because of its weakness, according to the official Saudi Press Agency (SPA), quoting the official spokesman of the Saudi Geological Society, Tariq Aba Al-Khalil.

He also assured citizens and residents that the seismic situation is stable in the region.
