Kurdistan gov't welcomes PM Al-Abadi's calls for dialogue

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) IRBIL, Oct 19 (KUNA) -- The government of Kurdistan welcomed Thursday Iraq's Prime Minister Haider Al-Abadi's calls for dialogue over their dispute regarding the secession of the former from Baghdad.

A statement by the Kurdistan Regional Government (KNG) said that the Kurdish people support all efforts aimed at resolving problems through partnership and cooperation.

The KNG called on the international community to get involved in the efforts to bring the Iraqis and Kurdish people together.

After the September 25 Kurdistan Independence vote, relations between Baghdad and Irbil became tense.

The Iraqi federal government suspended regional and international flights heading to Kurdistan Iraq and took other measures to halt Kurdish oil exports and imports.

Baghdad and Irbil are also disputing over territories gained from the war against the so-called Islamic State (IS) with each side claiming ownership of some regions. (end) sbr.gta
