Kuwait supports initiatives for unified Arab environmental approach

CAIRO, 20th October, 2017 (WAM) -- Kuwait on Thursday highlighted its support for the initiatives aimed at reaching a joint Arab approach for tackling environmental issues.

The Kuwait News Agency, KUNA, quoted Sheikh Abdullah Ahmad Al-Humoud Al-Sabah, Chairman and Director-General of Kuwait's Environment Public Authority, EPA, as saying that Kuwait has made headways on the path to achieve "environmental governance", noting that the EPA's strategy is in harmony with the state sustainable development plans.

In a statement at the 29th session of the Council of Arab environment ministers, Sheikh Abdullah said the conferees focused on studying means for sustainable development, relevant international treaties and reaching joint views on these accords.

He said during the session, that Kuwait had signed the statute of the "Arab environmental agency," and had established environmental welfare associations, including two that function under the umbrella of the EPA.
