A Honduras-registered cargo ship heading to Vietnam capsized in waters off Kaohsiung, Taiwan, during the early hours of Wednesday. All 14 Indonesian crewmen were rescued, with the last man picked up by a fishing boat off Anping, Tainan, eight hours after the ship capsized.
The Ming An departed from Kaohsiung Port for Vietnam at 2:06pm on Tuesday, The Real Daily reported. At 1:38am, the Coast Guard Administration received a distress signal from the ship after it ran into bad weather, as its hydraulic high-pressure water pump was damaged by rough waves. It started to sink as seawater poured in.

The administration dispatched a frigate and three cutters from Tainan, Kaohsiung and the Penghu Islands to rescue the crew, while the National Airborne Service Corps sent a helicopter to support the effort, according to a statement by the Maritime Patrol Directorate General.
Around three hours after the ship foundered, at 5:12am, 13 Indonesian men were located and taken to safety, and the 14th crew member was picked up by a fishing boat off the coast of Anping at 9:55am.
Wearing a lifejacket, he had drifted in the water for more than eight hours.
