French embassy to launch recycling initiative on Oct 22
(MENAFN- Gulf Times) The French embassy in Doha will organise a paper and cardboard recycling initiative on October 22 as part of its effort to contribute to the Qatar Sustainability Week, scheduled from October 28 to November 4, French ambassador Eric Chevallier has said.
'It is an immense pleasure to contribute, for the second year in a row, to Qatar Sustainability Week, the envoy stressed, as the embassy pursues its collaboration with Al Wakrah Municipality.
He made the presentation at his residence in Doha in the presence of Al Wakrah Municipality director Mansour al-Boenain, Qatar National Commission for Education, Culture and Science secretary-general Dr Hamda al-Sulaiti, Qatar Green Building Council director Meshaal al-Shamari, doctors Rupert Maclean and Leone Wheeler from the Unesco Global Network of Learning Cities, and the owner and director of Al Nukhba recycling company.
In 2016, the embassy had organised a large cleaning campaign on Al Wakrah beach in association with Doha Accueil and numerous members of the French community.
This year, Chevallier hopes that many other institutions will join this initiative.
'Our visit aims at promoting the Unesco Learning Cities standards of including all sectors, whether private or governmental, in the learning and application of the principles of sustainability, al-Boenain said.
He noted that the French embassy in Doha, particularly ambassador Chevallier, strongly supports this transformation to sustainability as well as the implementation of the principles that limit climate change challenges.
'Therefore, our visit today comes within the framework of promoting our strategic partnership with the French embassy, which has adopted, as well the French community, the culture of recycling, al-Boenain added.
He hopes that others will follow the French example when it comes to adopting the culture of sustainability and protection of the environment.
