Contractors 'using more local materials'

(MENAFN- Gulf Times) The Gulf crisis has motivated contractors to use goods and materials made by local companies instead of imported ones, senior sales and marketing manager Zaki Ahmed has said.
'Qatar has always made different products locally but consultants and clients earlier preferred to import materials produced abroad. The siege has obviously changed that and products made in Qatar are a top priority for everyone now, Ahmed told Qatar Urdu Radio's live show Haqeeqat yesterday.
He gave the example of gypsum as a material that has been produced in Qatar for a while but contractors used to import it from other countries earlier.
'After the siege on Qatar (began), a local company has also started producing ceiling metal tiles, which we used to import before, Ahmed said, adding that the companies in Qatar are producing materials based on international standards and that they only need to increase the quantity now to meet the demand.
Haqeeqat, which aims to engage and interact with the large South Asian expatriate community in Qatar, is a joint venture of Gulf Times and Qatar Media Corporation Urdu Radio.
It is broadcast from Sunday to Thursday on FM107. The show is hosted by Saif-ur-Rehman. One can log on to Qatar Urdu Radio on Facebook and ‘@QatarUrduRadio' on Twitter for feedback and comments about the show.
