PCCD Doubles Its Smiles for Troops

(MENAFNEditorial) LOS ALTOS, Calif., Oct. 19, 2017 /PRNewswire/ --Double the amount of Bay Area veterans who served in Iraq and Afghanistan will receive world-class dental care for free on Friday. Nov. 10 — the day before Veteran's Day — at Peninsula Center of Cosmetic Dentistry in Los Altos, CA.

PCCD will host its fifth-annual "Smiles for Troops" event all day Nov. 10, 2017. Dr. Bruce Hartley, Dr. Joseph Field, Dr. John McFarlane, Dr. Marlana Shile, and staff will perform free cleanings, fillings, crowns as well as root canals and even total smile makeovers. This year, the Mountain View dental office of Dr. Patrick McEvoy and Dr. Jennifer Lehnhardt joins "Smiles for Troops" to serve even more veterans in their community.

For the last four years, PCCD's partners Dr. Hartley and Dr. Field have used dentistry to boost hundreds of veterans' confidence as they re-enter civilian life. As troops rotate home from conflicts oversees, PCCD aims to serve the heroes who've sacrificed for America in the Middle East, Central Asia and Africa.

Veterans often forego dental work during overseas deployments, and face long waits to access federal health benefits when they return stateside. By contrast, PCCD pampers servicemen and women with a relaxing, efficient, boutique, spa environment. America's toughest warriors are treated to warm neck towels at the door, aromatherapy pillows, and soothing, immaculate, world-class care.

PCCD specializes in cosmetic dentistry, IV sedation, dental implants, Invisalign orthodontics, and general dentistry. Dr. Hartley, Dr. Field, Dr. McFarlane, Dr. Marlana Shile and PCCD's expert hygienists volunteer a full workday to treat as many vets as they can – free of charge. That includes same-day crowns and implants made possible by PCCD's two, state-of-the-art, $100,000 Cerec machines — which mill porcelain crowns and onlays — as well as an iTero® 3-D scanner and digital impression system for sizing implants. In 2016, Dr. Hartley gave a Navy servicewoman married to a Navy SEAL a full smile makeover for free. Dr. Field has placed dental implants on many veterans and has offered IV sedation to patients who needed this service.

Vets with military identification and work orders can call today to make an appointment for "Smiles for Troops." PCCD staff triages the most pressing cases, bringing in vets early for X-rays and exams, then schedules a full day of volunteer work Nov. 10 – performing cleanings, fillings, even free root canals from visiting endodontist Dr. Kingstone Shih, an Endodontist who has partnered with PCCD every year. Vets will also receive a customized goodie-bag with dental hygiene products.

PCCD has served scores of mostly young men and women from the Bay Area over the past four years, and staff has forged relationships with many who return yearly, said coordinator Tanya Hartley. Many vets are in their 20s and going back to school at local community colleges.

"The coolest part for us is seeing the return patients now," Dr. Hartley said. "We look forward to seeing them and they look forward to seeing us."

The addition of more staff at PCCD, as well as a second office, promises to double the number of smiles for troops in 2017.

"We're just excited to have another office — we're able to serve more folks. And we're excited to be working with Dr. Shih," Dr. Field said.

"It's been an awesome experience to be able to give back to these heroic men and women who serve us," Dr. Hartley said. "We love them."

"Each year just gets better and better," said Dr. Field.
