Scotland bans children smacking

(MENAFN) Scotland would be the first country in UK to ban smacking children.

Justice spokesperson for the Scottish Greens, John Finnie, has suggested a members' bill to eliminate the defence of "justifiable assault" from the law of the country.

The UK is among the 4 countries in the EU that haven't done any legal changes concerning the physical punishment of children.

Finnie's suggested bill received strong responses from individuals and organizations, such as the NSPCC, Unicef UK and the Scottish Police Federation.
