Catalonia: Independence set in motion as the deadline draws near

(MENAFN) Carles Puigdemont, Catalonia's leader is at risk of losing the region's autonomy after Spain's notice, if he did not abide to the closing deadline by 10:00 (08:00 GMT) of ending the secession bid.

Subsequent to October 1st referendum, Puigdemont requested an assembly right after he signed an independence announcement and canceled it. According to reports, he will go on with independence under Madrid's condition expanding their political authority.

After the end of the dictatorship era and welcoming democracy in Spain following the death of General Franco, a new article was established permitting Madrid to directly handle calamities, although it is yet to be brought into practice. (Spain's 1978 constitution, Article 155)

During the closing deadline, protests are swarming since the two separatist movement leaders were confined.
