Oman- Middle East civil aviation bodies' heads meeting begins


(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Muscat- The fourth meeting of heads and directors general of civil aviation in the Middle East started on Wednesday.

The three-day meeting is being organised by the Public Authority for Civil Aviation (PACA) in cooperation with the ICAO Regional Office for the Middle East.

Representatives of the civil aviation authorities of 16 Middle Eastern countries and a number of regional and international organisations working in the civil aviation sector are participating in the meeting.

The meeting discusses a number of issues related to the regulatory and technical aspects of safety and security of civil aviation, the formation of a security and aviation facilitation team in the Middle East and cooperation fields in aviation security and strategies to enhance cooperation in the field of air navigation among the countries of the region. It also discusses rights of passengers, environmental issues and liberalisation of the airspace between the countries of the Middle East and the latest developments in the subject of fair competition between airlines.

The opening of the meeting was graced by Sultan bin Salim al Habsi, deputy chairman of the Board of Governors of the Central Bank of Oman. Dr Mohammed bin Nasser al Za'abi, CEO of PACA, said that the government has given the civil aviation sector great importance, and this interest was reflected in the great achievements witnessed by the sultanate under the wise leadership of His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said.

He added that the government has invested in aviation infrastructure through the development and establishment of international and regional airports with the best international standards to cope with the continuous global developments.

The meeting was attended by H E Dr Ahmed bin Mohammed bin Salim al Futaisi, Minister of Transport and Communications and chairman of the Board of Directors of PACA.
