UAE- Ras Al Khaimah to build clean coal plant by 2021

(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) The emirate of Ras Al Khaimah is set to have the first clean coal power station in the UAE by the first quarter of 2021. The new station, expected to be worth Dh8 billion, will generate 1,800 megawatts per year.

Mohammed Saleh, director-general of the Federal Electricity and Water Authority (Fewa), said the new station will be built in collaboration with the private sector.

The scheme is part of the Fewa's strategy to turn into an entity for producing water and electricity, he added. "Fewa will build more clean coal power stations across the country because of its high efficiency and low production costs."

The authority has already invited all developers concerned to contribute to this station, Saleh said, adding that Fewa would invite bidders for a public tender in the first week of next November.

The new station will help significantly cut the costs of electricity production, he added. "This is in view of the increasing demand for power at the areas covered by the authority."

Fewa has already decided on the plot of land where the station will be built, Salem informed.
