France urges Iran to work towards ending crisis in Iraq

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) PARIS, Oct 18 (KUNA) -- France on Wednesday called on all parties in Iraq and Iran to work together to totally defeat so-called Islamic State and to bring an end to the crisis with Kurdish parties in northern Iraq.

"France is attached to the integrity and sovereignty of Iraq," the French Foreign Ministry said in a message that it has repeated several times since the crisis erupted between Iraqi and Kurdish authorities over the oil-rich Kirkuk region.

Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Agnes Romatet-Espagne said that this is "a decisive moment for reconciliation between all Iraqis" and France has several times urged that no party should take steps that would stoke tensions in the region.

"France calls on all those who exercise influence in Iraq to contribute to the search for a necessary consensus for complete victory over Daesh (so-called IS) and an exit from the crisis," the spokeswoman remarked in a briefing.

"It is this message that (France) is notably sending to Iran," she added. (end) jk.sd
