Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan set to increase frequency of flights

Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan intend to increase the frequency and expand the geography of flights.

For this purpose, the management of Uzbekistan Airways held a meeting with the representatives of the Kazakhstan's Air Astana, podrobno.uz reported.

During the talks, the parties discussed the development of passenger transport between the two countries in order to increase the tourist flow. In particular, an agreement to increase the frequencies of regular flights from Tashkent to Almaty, Astana and back was reached.

The sides also discussed the opening of new directions from the cities of Kazakhstan to the historical cities of Uzbekistan - Urgench, Bukhara and Samarkand.

In addition, the parties considered the aspects of cooperation in the maintenance and repair of Air Astana aircrafts at Uzbekistan airways technics enterprise as well as the training of Kazakh pilots in the Uzbek national air carrier's Training Complex.

Following the meeting, representatives of the two airlines signed a protocol of negotiations. Currently, the two air companies perform regular flights between Tashkent and Almaty (six times a week) and between Tashkent and Astana (twice a week) on a parity basis.

Uzbekistan Airways is the monopoly carrier in Uzbekistan and is wholly owned by the state.
Its fleet currently consists of 30 aircraft of western production, including 12 Boeings (four 767-300, five 757-200, two 767- 300-ER and one Boeing-787-800 Dreamliner), 13 Airbuses (three A-310 and ten A-320-200), three medium-range RJ-85 planes and two Boeing-767-300BCF cargo planes.

Uzbekistan Airways conducts flights to over 20 cities in Europe, America, Middle East, Asia, and in 22 cities of countries of Commonwealth of Independent States and 11 destinations on local airlines.

Air Astana was established in 2002 as a joint venture between Kazakhstan's Samruk Kazyna National Welfare Fund and BAE Systems.

Its main bases are Astana International Airport and Almaty International Airport. The Airline's network comprises of over 40 international and 22 domestic destinations.
