(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) BAGHDAD, Oct 16 (KUNA) -- EU High Representative Federica Mogherini on Monday affirmed the union's backing to the unity of Iraq and the respect of its constitution.
This came during a phone conversation with Iraq's Prime Minister Haidar Al-Abadi.
She expressed her readiness to convey any message to the world aiming to contribute to stabilizing the ongoing situations in that Arab country, said a statement.
The two sides discussed the deployment of the Iraqi troops in Kirkuk governorate and the application of legal and constitutional measures to impose federal authority across Iraq, it added.
Such measures serve interest of all Iraqi people, including the Kurdish people, Al-Abadi was quoted by the statement as saying.
He said he urged the troops to protect civilians in Kirkuk.
Earlier today, the Iraqi troop entered Kirkuk and restored several military strategic sites and oil wells. (end) ahh.hm
