UAE- Emirati captain, Indian worker injured in RAK fishing boat blast


(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) An Emirati Nookhaza or captain and an Indian marine worker sustained several injuries after the boat they were on burst into flames in Ras Al Khaimah.

The central operations room of the RAK Police immediately dispatched police patrols, an ambulance, paramedics and rescue teams to the site after being alerted of the incident.

Khalifa Al Muhairi, chairman of the RAK fishermen society, lateon Tuesdaysaid that the mishap took place on the coasts of Shaam town, around 40km to the north of RAK city.

"The Emirati victim, identified only as S.S. K., is the owner of the fishing boat," he said.

"The Emirati Nookhaza and the Indian worker were rushed to Saqr hospital for treatment."

Sources at the hospital said that the 50-year-old Emirati Nookhaza received some bruises and injuries to his chest and both feet. "The 28-year-old Indian worker had a fracture in one of his right ribs."

Both victims were discharged shortly after receiving medical care. There was no need to hospitalise them, sources added.

Informed sources said the blast took place around5.30pmduring a regular fishing trip.

"Investigations are underway to identify the reasons behind the explosion."
