Ministry outlines procedures to start private schools

The Ministry of Education and Higher Education yesterday announced a schedule of receiving applications for opening new private schools and kindergartens for the academic year 2018-2019, starting from November 1, 2017.
The duration given for applying is one month as the deadline for submission of applications will be on December 31, 2017.
Asked whether the duration given to applicants was enough in line with the requirements and conditions set by the Ministry; Hamad Al Ghali (pictured), Director of Private Schools Licensing at the Ministry, said that it was enough for just applying online while for the remaining process applicants had been given seven months.
Submission of applications is step one which will be followed by a number of procedures, Al Ghali explained. Al Ghali told The Peninsula that the ministry responds to the applicant within seven to ten working days after receiving the initial applications electronically on the standard application form. After submission applicant receives a notification of the name of member of the Private Schools Office (PSO) who will be in touch with him as licensing case manager.
For completer procedures, applicants are required to fulfill all requirements until July and this include all approvals from different ministries and departments each on his area of specializations, he added.
The final decision and submission of license is done in July, two months ahead of the new academic year.
The ministry has provided Handbook for Applicants called 'Licensing a Private School in the State of Qatar which includes all conditions and requirements needed to be fulfilled for getting license.
Based on the previous year's experiences, Al Ghali pointed out that most of the applicants used to apply for British curriculum and the selection of language, curriculum to be taught in the school and school's location were the issues needed to be decided by investors for approval of other concerned ministries and departments.
The ministry said it has set up all criteria and conditions along the standards and specifications of buildings, academic and process of getting licenses for private schools and KGs. Conditions set by the ministry include that applicant must not be one of the ministry's employee or employee of other affiliated bodies and his/her age must not be less than 18 years.
