Chief of Staff for the Iranian Armed Forces Major General Mohammad Baqeri heading high-ranking military delegation has arrived in the Syrian capital, Damascus.

The visit takes place at the official invitation of Syria's Defense Minister Major General Fahd Jassem al-Freij, Iranian media outlets reported.

According to the media reports, the Iranian general is expected to meet Syrian President Basahr al-Assad during the visit.

The sides are slated to talk expansion of defense cooperation and combat against terrorism as well as ways to bring about stability to the region.

The reports described the top general's visit as a sign of "Iran's determination" to fight confront terrorism.
