Qatar supports developing cardiology department at Gaza's Nasser Hospital

Doha: Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS) said that it is currently working to improve the quality of cardiology services in the Gaza Strip through the reconstruction, expansion and equipping of the cardiology department of Nasser Medical Hospital to develop specialised services and treatment of heart patients in the southern governorates of the Gaza Strip.

QRCS said in a statement today that this new project comes within the framework of its plan to support and develop the health sector in Gaza in some areas that suffer from a lack of material and human resources, including chronic disease services. QRCS pointed out that the total cost of the project is $284,000, and is implemented in coordination with the Palestinian Ministry of Health in Gaza.

Dr Montaser Ismail, Consultant Cardiology and Catheterization and Head of Cardiology at Nasser Medical Hospital, said: "The heart department of Nasser Hospital is the central department of heart diseases in the southern governorates of the Gaza Strip, serving 650,000 people. Acute cases in the southern governorates, "explaining that the number of cases received for overnight in both the heart unit and the external heart department ranges from 150 to 200 cases per month.

Dr Ayman Al Farra, Director of Nasser Medical Hospital, said: "This new project, funded entirely, will help move patients in the southern governorates to high levels and increase the total capacity to 30 beds, Full in the new heart unit and 22 beds in the outer heart section.

He pointed out that the development of the cardiac unit at Nasser Hospital will increase coordination with the cardiac catheterization department at the European Gaza Hospital in the southern governorates, while reducing the patient transfer bill for treatment abroad. In addition, the medical diagnosis will become more accurate for diagnosis of cardiac and arterial valves, which will be supplied within the project.
