(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Muscat- A Regional Training Workshop on Malaria Surveillance, Monitoring and Evaluation was held recently at the Park Inn Hotel Muscat.
The three-day workshop organised by the World Health Organization (WHO) in collaboration with the Ministry of Health (MoH) looked at training malaria surveillance focal points in the participating countries, stated a press release.
The workshop presented a number of working papers to discuss WHO's strategies and challenges to eliminate malaria. Dr Idris al Obaidani, director of communicable diseases said, 'Surveillance of malaria infection in human population is the backbone of malaria elimination. It was considered as the pillar number three in the Regional Malaria Action Plan 2016-2020 and in the Global Technical Strategy (GTS) 2016-2030.'
A number of experts from the field of infection control in Saudi Arabia, Somalia, Yemen, Sudan, Pakistan, Iran, Afghanistan and Oman participated in the workshop.
