ABU DHABI, 14th October, 2017 (WAM) -- A new smart programme for harnessing trade to support worthy humanitarian causes has been launched by the Zayed Giving Initiative, ZGI, as part of the Year of Giving, launched by President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan for 2017.

Dr. Adel Al Shamri, CEO of ZGI, said the programme ''Traders for Charity'' is the first of its kind in the Arab world and seeks to train and empower youth to become social entrepreneurs so they can give back to their communities and make a positive impact.

''Traders for a cause will be motivated, trained, empowered and funded to establish sustainable community-oriented companies to serve health, educational and humanitarian causes locally and globally. The programme supports the President's Year of Giving declaration for 2017 to promote the culture of community-inspired giving,'' he said.

He further added that the smart, innovative social entrepreneurship programme aims to invest in the youth by providing them funds to launch businesses for 90 days to find creative, sustainable solutions to challenges facing their communities.
