Another Akhlaq? Police book cow vigilantism victims, assaulters let go
14 Oct 2017

In yet another incident of cow vigilantism, a group of men assaulted five people in Faridabad after suspecting them of carrying beef.

During the assault, the men were reportedly shouting 'Jai Hanuman'.

Shockingly, police have filed a case against the victim for smuggling beef, but not against the assaulters, media reports claimed.

This comes even after PM Narendra Modi warned vigilantes of strict action.

The assaulters reportedly intercepted an auto rickshaw in which four people were travelling on suspicion that they were transporting beef.

The mob asked the driver to chant 'Bharat Mata ki Jai' and 'Jai Hanuman'. When he refused, they attacked him while others chanted 'Jai Hanuman'.

The passengers were assaulted too.

The victims claimed the incident took place in front of cops.

Reacting to the incident, Haryana BJP leader Raman Malik said, "(These incidents) aren't done by actual 'gau rakshaks' but by 'gundas' (goons) parading as 'gau rakshaks'." However, he maintained that "if any person is caught carrying beef, then it is a case for the police".

Incidentally, this comes a day after a UP BJP MLA promised jobs and compensation to the accused in the Mohammad Akhlaq case.

Some who were working with NTPC but were sacked after the incident will be reinstated, MLA Tejpal Singh Nagar said.

Meanwhile, the kin of an accused who died in jail of multiple organ failure, might get a compensation of Rs. 8L.
