Turkish Army troops suffer 2 deaths in raid on PKK

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) ISTANBUL, Oct 13 (KUNA) -- Two Turkish soldiers died and seven others suffered wounds in a mop-up military operation in southeastern Turkey, the military said in a statement on Friday.

The regular forces suffered the casualties during the operation, targeting hideouts and passageways used by the outlawed Workers Party of Kurdistan, in Hakkari, Diyarkbakir and Se'ret.

The military forces "neutralized" 23 members of the secessionist Kurdish party, also known as the PKK, seized explosives and explosives during the raid. They blew up 27 positions, hideouts, caves and ammunition depots.

The Turkish Army regularly attacks the PKK positions in southeastern Turkey and northern Iraq.

Turkey's largely Kurdish southeast has been rocked by violence following collapse of a 2-1/2-year ceasefire between the state and the PKK in 2015. The autonomy-seeking PKK took up arms in 1984, and more than 40,000 people have died in the conflict. It is considered a terrorist group by Turkey, the United States and the European Union.
