Greece: legal gender change is allowed

(MENAFN) The Greek parliament has accepted a new regulation that allows people to change their legal gender.

Anyone above 15 years will now be able to change their gender only with a court verdict and without requiring a medical procedure.

The new law was an improvement in LGBT activists' opinion, while The Greek Orthodox Church said it was "immoral".

The previous law required sex-change surgery and medical tests for those who wanted to change their legal gender, which was criticized by human rights groups and LGBT activists.

On the other hand, the new law was opposed by conservative politicians who claim that the minimum age of 15 was too young.
