French police arrest 2 more suspects linked with Marseille killings

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) PARIS, Oct 11 (KUNA) -- Only days after Swiss police made two arrests in connection with the October 1 murder of two young girls in Marseille, a crime claimed by so-called Islamic State, French police on Wednesday announced the arrest of two other men believed also to have links with the killings, media reported.

The two 20-year-old women were stabbed to death in front of the Marseille train station by 29-year-old Tunisian national Ahmad Hanachi, a known felon who had been released from custody only two days before he killed the women.

Interior Minister Gerard Collomb earlier Wednesday announced the sacking of the Prefect for the Lyon region and another senior official over Hanachi's release when he should have been expelled from France.

The arrests took place in the southern city of Toulon, which is in the Marseille region, "France Info" radio said.

Meanwhile, the men in Swiss custody are expected to be extradited to France and all four suspects are being looked at for links with radical networks.

Although so-called Islamic State quickly claimed the Marseille attack, officials here have expressed caution about the claim while they await authentic proof. (end) jk.hb
