Race for Unesco's top post tightens

(MENAFN- Gulf Times) Race for the post of Director-General of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (Unesco) has tightened following the announcement of the results of the third round of elections held yesterday evening.
The third round gave 18 votes to both Qatar's candidate for Unesco's top post HE Dr Hamad bin Abdulaziz al-Kuwari and French rival Audrey Azoulay, intensifying the competition before the fourth round today. The Egyptian candidate Moushira Khattab received 13 votes, while Chinese candidate Tang Qian got five and the Lebanese candidate Vera El Khoury got four votes in the third round.
One of the candidates must receive an absolute majority (30 votes), otherwise a fifth and final round will be held for the two candidates who have led the fourth round. QNA
