Renowned French dance group, Pockemon Crew staged a well applauded performance at a packed Katara Drama Theatre on Monday night.
The General Manager of the Cultural Village Foundation Katara, Dr Khalid bin Ibrahim Al-Sulaiti and French Ambassador Eric Chevallier were among those who watched the show.
Pockemon Crew, an all-male dance group composed of six members, brought the crowd to their feet with their vibrant dance routines. Cleverly choreographed tumbles, twists and leaps, inspired by hip-hop and break dance, along with stunning lights and sound effects, came together to create a classic blend of both simplicity and sophistication.
'The Cultural Village Foundation Katara is eager to explore new avenues that will potentially promote bilateral relations between cultural entities. This performance highlights Katara's constant endevours to bring the best and finest in local and international talent to Qatar. We are pleased to host such a talented troupe from France, said Dr. Al Sulaiti.
'Pockemon Crew started out as a ‘street-dancing' group. Within a relatively short span of time, their ability to deliver a story or message through dance, struck a chord amongst the public and they've been popular since. I would like to personally thank Katara for providing excellent facilities for this popular dance group. The collaboration highlights the efforts of the Cultural Village to reach out and support artists from across the world, said Chevalier.
The Pockemon Crew started in Lyon, France in the 1990's. From a casual group of dancers who got together in order to take part in dance competitions, the troupe grew to be world-renowned performers, gathering multiple awards and accolades along the way. Well-known in Europe and amongst modern dance buffs, the group has contributed to making contemporary dance styles recognized the world over.
