Hundreds of prospective students visited ‘Discover Education City 2017', to know opportunities available across Qatar Foundation(QF)'s nine universities, as the event opened doors yesterday.

The two-day student recruitment event for higher education institutions provides participants with insight into academic offerings of Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU) and Qatar Foundation's partner universities and information about admissions processes and standardised testing procedures.

The largest education fair was inaugurated by Khalifa Saad Al Derham, Director of Schools' Affairs, Ministry of Education and Higher Education in the presence of Dr Khaled B. Letaief, Provost, HBKU and Maryam Al Mannai , Vice-President of Student Affairs, HBKU. Following the inauguration, officials toured the fair and met with university representatives.

'This is open to students from all schools, so our objective is to get students as many as possible to come here and we aim to provide them with the vast opportunities available for them to study within the Education City, said Dr Letaief.

It was conceptualized by HBKU, QF's homegrown university, to provide a preview of EC's academic programmes to high school students and recent graduates. The event is organised by level of study, and encompasses the offerings of nine universities: HBKU, Virginia Commonwealth University School of the Arts in Qatar, Weill Cornell Medicine - Qatar, Texas A & M University at Qatar, Carnegie Mellon University in Qatar, Georgetown University in Qatar, Northwestern University in Qatar, HEC Paris in Qatar, and UCL Qatar.

Admissions staff from all participating institutions will be on hand to give visitors a deeper understanding of the admissions process and requirements. 'This gave me the opportunity to get closer to my goal. My aim is to study medicine, but for that I need to have to get high point in IELTS. By visiting Discover Education City, I learnt the necessity to improve my English to reach my goal, said Mohamed Hamidi, a Qatari student who visited the fair yesterday.

A third and last session of the ‘Discover Education City 2017 will be held today from 9 am to 12 pm. It is open to the public and no registration is required.
