Qatar- Ministry detects 28 violations in commercial stores

The Ministry of Economy and Commerce carried out a surprise inspection campaign on number of different commercial stores in the country.

The campaign resulted in the seizure and issuance of 28 violations, which varied from not advertising in Arabic, not delivering an invoice in Arabic, not abiding by the terms and conditions of the sale license or promotional offer and not separating the goods.

The Ministry said in a statement that this type of practice contravenes the provisions of Law No. 8 of 2008 on consumer protection, and the ministerial decision No. (5) of 1984 on sale through discounts, where the value of the single offense ranges between QR 5000 and 6000.

The surprise inspection campaigns are within the efforts undertaken by the Ministry of Economy and Commerce's keenness on monitoring the extent to which suppliers (commercial outlets) comply with their obligations under the provisions of Law No. 8 of 2008 on consumer protection, and the ministerial decision No. (5) of 1984 on sale through discounts as well as its keenness on regulating the markets and commercial activities in the State with the aim of controlling prices and detecting abuses, in order to protect the rights of consumers, as well as monitoring the compliance of suppliers.

The Ministry confirmed it will be firm against all those negligent and not complying with the consumer protection law and its executive regulations. It also confirmed it will intensify its inspection campaigns to control such practices and refer all violators to the concerned entities to take the appropriate measures against them to protect the consumer.

The Ministry called on all consumers to report any violations to the Ministry through its difference communication channels such as phone, emails, social media or application available on smartphones.
