Turkey summons US ambassador in wake of travel ban

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) ANKARA, Oct 9 (KUNA) -- Turkey on Monday held talks with the US chief diplomat in Ankara over Washington's decision to suspend travel permits of Turkish citizens to the US.

The US move a day ago came after Turkey's arrest of an employee at the US Consulate in Istanbul accused of espionage and having links to the 2016 failed coup attempt.

The Turkish Foreign Ministry asked the US diplomat to reconsider its move, calling it "unfair," according to Turkish media.

Ankara has since retaliated, with the decision coming into effect as of Monday. (end) rs.sd
