Kuwait- Development plan 2030 aims for more comprehensive cities: UN

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) BEIRUT, Oct 9 (KUNA) -- The United Nations is keen to make the world a secured place with more sustainable and comprehensive cities by the year 2030.

Half of the world population is living in urban areas were most industries, trades, cultural centers, state institutions and security services exist, said UN media center in a press release.

The center expected in its publication on sustainable development that 60 percent of world population, most of whom are young people, will be living in cities by 2030 where they can have a better life with more social and financial opportunities.

The report noted that the 11th goal of the UN sustainable program aims at improving all aspects of life in the modern cities by providing labor and job opportunities for all members of society, besides maintaining roads and traffic.

It also aims for providing houses with secured and inexpensive basic services, as well as improving poor neighborhoods to promote sustainable urbanized cities.

The UN also seeks to overcome the population density and its impact on the infrastructure of cities, especially due to the negligence of some governments in the least developed countries.

The state of Kuwait was the first country in the region to have an infrastructural planning in 1952 aimed at building road network and re-locate areas for government buildings, commercial centers, schools and modern residential areas.(end) wsw.nhq
