US and Turkey hold the majority of visa services

(MENAFN) The two countries have been involved in a consular row, suspending nearly all visa services jointly, as the Turkish embassy in Washington stated it had to "reassess" the US government's dedication to the security of the mission and employees, while a previous related declaration was made by the US embassy in Ankara.

This happens after detaining a US consulate worker in Istanbul, suspected of being linked to a cleric related to 2016's unsuccessful coup in Turkey, which was condemned by Washington as baseless and affecting the countries' relations.

Turkish embassy in Washington stated: "In order to minimize the number of the visitors to our diplomatic and consular missions in the US while this assessment proceeds, effective immediately we have suspended all visa services regarding the US citizens at our diplomatic and consular missions in the US. This measure will apply to sticker visas as well as e-visas and border visas."

According to the American mission, "all non-immigrant visa services at all US diplomatic facilities in Turkey" had been suspended, while non-immigrant visas are issued to citizens traveling for business, temporary work or study, medical treatment, or tourism.
