The General Directorate of Traffic has registered more than 400 violations of stopping at the yellow box in the last two months. It has urged motorists not to commit such violations because it may disrupt and hinder traffic. The Traffic Department fines QR500 and cuts three points of the motorists who commit this violation.

The Law No. (19) of 2007 Regarding the Traffic Law in the article (72) says that 'Despite having priority or if the traffic light indicates green, a motorist may not move the vehicle if such act will disrupt or hinder traffic, and whoever has priority may waive such priority if traffic conditions so require.

Commenting on the violation, First Lieutenant Ahmed Ali Al Kuwari said that stopping at yellow box causes traffic jam and creates obstacle for traffic movement in the intersection. 'Motorists despite seeing green light should not move the vehicles if that will disrupt or hinder traffic.

He also added that the problem of ignoring such traffic rules may cause traffic accidents, and department is fining motorists who commit this violation through the cameras which are fixed in intersections.

'The cameras take three pictures of the vehicle, one shows the number plate of the vehicle, the second shows the body of the vehicle and the third picture shows the position and place of the vehicle at the yellow box.

Al Kuwari noted that if the violator is a subscriber of Metrash, they will receive a text message about the type of the violation and the value of the fine. Since the beginning of August, more than 400 violations of stopping at yellow box have been recorded.

Earlier, Brig Mohamed Saad Al Kharji, Director-General of the Traffic Department had said that department was focusing more on ‘stopping in the yellow box' violations because it had a become very common and the department wanted to put an end to these violations.
