It is a painful and disabling feature of a small number of primary headache disorders, namely migraine, tension-type headache, and cluster headache. Dr Hamza Baravi, specialist - neurologist at KIMS Oman Hospital said, 'Treatments differ due to kinds of headaches. However, the most common method remains resting in a quiet, dark room and taking analgesics such as aspirin, paracetamol, etc. There are advanced treatments available as well. However, sometimes, people get relieved through alternative methods such as meditation, massages, acupuncture, heat therapy, etc.'
Doctors primarily diagnose headachesthrough a description of the condition, age and gender, type of pain, timing and pattern, position of the headache and triggers. If the nature of the headache appears to be complex, further tests may be carried out to eliminate more serious causes. Tests could include blood tests, X-rays, brain scans, such as CT andMRI, eye examination, lumber puncture, etc.
It is important to develop healthy coping strategies for unavoidablestress, eat regular meals, drinks adequate fluids, sleep enough hours and preserve a normal range of sugar and blood pressure.
