(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Muscat- Participating in an international event is a rare opportunity to get. One such occasion came to Aburva Govindarajan of class 10, Indian School Sohar. She took part and emerged as a winner in the junior age category at an International Dance Festival Hidden Idol 2017 held recently.
The selection to this grand finale was possible due to her success in various audition rounds in which thousands of classical dancers across the globe participated. In this grand finale, top 20 bharatanatya dancers participated from the US, the UK, Sri Lanka and various parts of India. This is the first time that a dancer from Oman performed at this festival. She has been learning the classical dance for past nine years under the tutelage of Githaa Ravishannkhar, director, Sohar Institute of Music and Arts, who choreographed her dances.
Aburva's performance with live orchestra was well appreciated by eminent jury members. This event was held at a town well-known for classical dances, Chidambaram, which is 230km south of Chennai. By virtue for her participation in this event, Aburva is eligible to perform in forthcoming world dance festivals which will be held across many continents.
Aburva said, 'I am overwhelmed to represent Oman at this international event. I have shared my pleasant memories with fellow participants about this beautiful country, its rich cultural heritage, friendly people and adorable places of historical importance. The participation in this event served as a means of benchmarking and sharing of experiences with dancers from different countries.
'I express my sincere gratitude to my parents for their continued support. I thank my dance teacher, Githaa Ravishannkhar, as her rich experience and enthusiasm ignited the passion for dance in me.
'Also, I acknowledge the support and encouragement given by the school principal, teachers and friends on several occasions wherein I have struggled to cope with academics during the dance events.'
