(MENAFN- Gulf Times) Some of the blockading countries have been extensively using social-media platforms such as Twitter to channel propaganda against Qatar, radio host Obaid Tahir told Qatar Urdu Radio's live show Haqeeqat.
'People in Saudi Arabia, the UAE and Egypt have been particularly active in creating hashtags against Qatar's government with the intention of spreading lies and fake news, Tahir, who is also an active member of social media said. 'Last week, a government channel in the UAE released news that said people in Qatar were out on the streets and fighting with the local police but we know no such thing ever happened, he said.
'These social-media trends have so far failed miserably because users from Qatar promptly reveal the truth about what's happening on the ground. The reality is that everything is normal in the country and the crisis didn't disrupt the calm and peace here, and people are very happy with how Qatar's leadership has been handing the siege.
Haqeeqat, which aims to engage and interact with the large South Asian expatriate community in Qatar, is a joint venture of the 'Gulf Times' and Qatar Media Corporation Urdu Radio. It is broadcast from Sunday to Thursday on FM107. The show is hosted by Saif-ur-Rehman.
