(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Oman's Azaan al Rumhy termed his outing 'satisfying' at the first MENA Tour event in Jordan that concluded at the Ayla Golf Club in Aqaba on Saturday.
For Azaan, who has been taking part in the MENA Tour since the start of September, it was his third Tour event this season and it proved to be third time lucky. Not only did the Omani make the cut for the first time since September on MENA Tour, he also shared the winner's trophy during the Pro-Am event that was held on Wednesday.
Azaan won the Pro-Am title with Sweden's pro Fredrik Lindblom and two other amateurs - Amer Radee of Iraq and Asad Alrawashdeh of Jordan. Azaan was one of the 17 amateurs at the Jordan meet and competed along with 13 year old Shergo al Kurdi, Khalid Yousuf and Ahmed Skaik (both UAE) and Saudi Arabia's Othman Almulla from the region.

Azaan shot 83 on the opening day with just a birdie on the 17th and two double-bogeys but was consistent on the next day to shoot a three-over par 76. On Saturday, a roller-coaster round saw Oman's No 1-ranked golfer card a seven-over 80 that included two birdies on 12th and 16th hole but had seven bogeys and a double-bogey on the tenth hole. He concluded the event with a 20-over 239 to end tenth in the amateur division.
Speaking to Muscat Daily from Jordan, Azaan said, 'I had a decent outing here and I am satisfied with the results. I made the cut and won the Pro-Am title. So it was a fruitful event for me.
'My first goal in Jordan was to make the cut and I am glad that I achieved it after my disappointments in UAE. I have to work more on my putting as it had let me down here. The experience has been enriching and I hope to do well in the upcoming events.'
Azaan had begun his MENA Tour season with the Dubai Creek Open at the Dubai Creek Golf & Yacht Club on September 11 but failed to make the cut after a two-round 153 (77, 76).
He then took part in The Golf Citizen Classic (September 18-20) at The Els Club in Dubai and had scores of 78 and 80 (158) to again miss the cut. He gave the Abu Dhabi Open (Sept 25-27) a miss before proceeding to Aqaba, where he was accompanied by the Oman Golf Committee (OGC) vice-chairman, Ahmed al Jhdhamy.
Jamie Elson won the title in a tense playoff on Saturday, as he beat fellow Englishman Luke Joy. Elson carded a 68 to set the clubhouse target of a seven-under-par 212 that Joy matched with a 72, after producing a hole-in-one on the 12th. Both birdied the first extra hole, but a wayward drive by Joy opened the door for Elson to secure his win.
England's Todd Clements closed with a 72 to share the honours with Michael Harradine of Switzerland in the amateur division after both finished on one-over-par 220, well ahead of Almulla and Kurdi who tallied matching 13-over for the tournament.
