Trump says he will not move US embassy to Jerusalem for now

(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency) Washington,Oct.8 (Petra)-- US President Donald Trump late Saturday said he will not go ahead with his controversial pledge to move the American embassy to Jerusalem until after pushing for an Israeli-Palestinian peace deal.

Referring to efforts to forge a peace between the two sides that has eluded career diplomats for decades, Trump said on former governor Mike Huckabee's TV show, "I wanna give that a shot before I even think about moving the embassy to Jerusalem." "We're gonna make a decision in the not too distant future, the president said, adding but for now, the peace push comes first".

Trump declared on Sept.18 during a meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in New York that a peace agreement between Israel and the Palestinians became "possible", stressing that his administration would do its utmost to reach it.

"We are giving it (peace) absolute go. There is a good chance it could happen. Most people would say 'there's no chance whatsoever," US president highlighted on the sidelines of the annual UN General Assembly.

He also added "I think Israel would like to see it. I think the Palestinians would like to see it. I can tell you the Trump administration would like to see it ." WH
