Qatar- Ashghal executing 18 projects worth QR4bn in Al Khor

Al Khor will benefit from more than 18 service projects that are set to complete by 2022 at a total cost of more than QR4bn, the Public Works Authority (Ashghal) announced during a meeting with community leaders of the city at Al Khor Sports Club.

Ashghal's President, Dr Saad bin Ahmed Al Muhannadi, attended the meeting along with a number of Ashghal officials and in the presence of Central Municipal Council (CMC) Vice-Chairman, Hamad Lahdan Al Mohannadi, and CMC Al Khor Representative, Nasser bin Ibrahim Al Muhannadi.

The meeting discussed Ashghal's comprehensive plan to develop the infrastructure, roads and sewer system of Al Khor as well as public building projects in the city.

The meeting reviewed projects, including road and infrastructure development for 679 citizen land plots, Al Khor orbital road project that aims to ease traffic between the eastern, southern and western parts of the city, the project of switching Al Dhakhira and Corniche roundabouts to light signals, and the project of the 1.6km road leading to Al Farkiya Beach.

In addition, the meeting reviewed a road maintenance plan, through which all city roads will be maintained as the authority now carries out maintenance works and road paving in northwestern Al Khor before moving to the southern parts.

As for the sewer system projects, the meeting reviewed the expansion project of Al Khor sewer network, the sewer processing plant that is currently under construction and includes a processing plant at a capacity of 56,000 cubic meters per days, a sewer handling plant and sewer line works. Additionally, there is an ongoing project to execute a sewer network for the northern region of Al Khor. The plan also includes a number of health, educational and public buildings.

Ashghal wrapped up a marine biology center project, while it currently executes a waste processing plant in Al Khor.

A number of other projects will start in the near future such as Al Khor Health Center and the development of Al Khor Corniche, which includes the establishment of pedestrian and cycling lanes as well as the introduction of green areas, playing areas, seats and parking areas.

The meeting was interactive as participants inquired about details of the ongoing projects as well as the future ones, with Ashghal president and other officials answering the questions.

It was the second meeting in Al Khor after the first one that took place last year and discussed the planning phase, while the second meeting focused more on the execution stage.
