Reports: Saudi police foil attack near king's palace in Jeddah

American citizens have been warned by the US Embassy in Saudi Arabia to exercise caution in the area surrounding the king's place in Jeddah, following reports of an attack there.

Saudi security forces have reportedly foiled an attack close to the Al Salam Palace, which has left one attacker and two royal guards dead.

The Saudi government hasn't officially confirmed the incident.

"Due to the possibility of ongoing police activity, American citizens are advised to exercise caution when traveling through the area," the US Embassy has warned.

Saudi Arabia has witnessed a number of attacks by terrorist groups such as al-Qaeda and ISIS.

In July, Saudi authorities said they had foiled an ISIS attack on the Grand Mosque in Mecca.
