Iraq asks Turkey, Iran to stop oil trade with Kurdistan

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) BAGHDAD, Oct 6 (KUNA) -- Iraq asked Turkey and Iran to stop all their trade agreements, particularly ones related to oil exports and sales, with Kurdistan's regional government, Iraqi foreign ministry said Friday.

The ministry submitted a memorandum to the embassies of both countries in Baghdad over a week ago, asking them to deal exclusively with the Iraqi federal government in regards to border ports and oil trading, the ministry's spokesman Ahmad Mahjoub said in a statement.

The memo urged Ankara and Tehran to close all ports with Kurdistan until they come under the control of the Iraqi government, said Mahjoub.

It also asked both countries to halt all their business dealings and oil trading with the Kurdistan region, and deal with the Iraqi federal government only in these matters, he added.

Iraq is cooperating with the Turkish and Iranian governments to implement all procedures aimed to enforce the state constitutional laws in accordance with principles of good neighbor, respect of Iraqi sovereignty, and joint cooperation in facing dangers.

The government of Iraq's Kurdistan region is currently running the region's border ports and exporting oil, exclusively, from Irbil. (end) ahh.ma
