Minister of Education and Higher Education H E Dr Mohammed Abdul Wahed Ali Al Hammadi (pictured) has said that teachers are main partners in Qatar's development and through them its main achievements can be met and with their efforts in establishing generations Qatar anticipates its future.
Speaking at an event to celebrate World Teachers' Day, Dr Al Hammadi stressed that despite the challenges of globalisation, the opportunities it offers, the development of communication and information, their implications for the digital era, and its impact on education systems, teachers remain the basis of the educational process.
Dr Al Hammadi extended his congratulations to the teachers at Qatari schools, valued their dedication to work and their role in developing Qatar's human and knowledge capital, leading Qatar's society towards knowledge, shaping the values and attitudes of students, founding their awareness, and drafting their national identity.
Teachers are provided with secure and stable educational environment that defines their job duties and hours and the number of students per semester. it is an attractive environment to teachers from 56 countries, which reflects the richness of Qatar's educational system and its compliance with the theme of the Unesco, 'Teaching in Freedom, Empowering Teachers that Unesco has announced a slogan for celebrating the World Teachers' Day this year on October 5. Dr Al Hammadi said that the training and educational development centre at the Ministry of Education and Higher Education has implemented in the framework of its plan for the last academic year about 90 training programs, from which more than 6,800 trainees have benefited.
They include qualification programs for the resettlement of leadership positions in schools, educational empowerment programs for new teachers and career advancement programs related to professional licenses.
The Minister called on teachers to be good role models, facilitators of learning and teaching children in an innovative way that can accommodate their individual differences, discover their talents and develop them, instill in students the spirit of national belonging, and help them to think independently and giving them more space to express their opinions.
In this context, Dr Al Hammadi said that the Ministry of Education and Higher Education received 164 new Qatari male and female teachers who recently joined the teaching profession as a result of a successful partnership with the 'Ambition program implemented by the ministry in cooperation with the College of Education at Qatar University and College of Community in Qatar as well as the teacher recruitment program of Teach for Qatar organization and graduates of the Faculty of Education wishing to practice teaching.

Dr Al Hammadi reiterated commitment to continue to strengthen the conditions of teachers, ensure that they have adequate support and resources, establish an institutional culture to respect them and not allow their abuse, and consider them effective educational leaders and custodians of society's values and identity, which, he added, means that it is imperative for everyone to appreciate their achievements.
In a speech given on behalf of the honourees, Sarah Aman Al Abdulrahman called on recognised teachers to intensify work and exert more efforts so as to achieve the goals and enhance contributions to human and society development, noting that this would be possible through belief that education needs giving and hard work in cultural, social and civil rights of everyone.
Al Abdulrahman said that several challenges face the educational process, which makes it necessary for teachers to develop themselves in teaching and research arts of all kinds, and to learn about the latest breakthroughs in all specialties in order to improve educational and teaching skills, which, in turn, raises the academic standards and qualifications of students while taking into consideration the individual differences between them.
In turn, Yousef Ali Darwish, the General Manager for communications at QNB Group, the strategic partner of the Ministry of Education and Higher Education, hailed the ministry's recognition of a group of male and female teachers who offered their intellect to serve the country and prepare future generations, which indicates the significance of the teacher's role in the education system and the achievement of Qatar National Vision 2030.
Stemming from its social responsibility, Darwish said, QNB has supported the activities of the ministry in an embodiment of the role of the private sector in backing education systems, noting that the banking sector is the first beneficiary of the outputs of the education system, particularly students of the Qatar Banking Studies and Business Administration School, and other professional schools.
Meanwhile, Qatar Foundation (QF) has celebrated World Teachers' Day by honouring its educators with a series of short student-led videos on social media.
The videos feature students from a number of schools and universities across QF, including Hamad Bin Khalifa University. In each clip, the pupils express their gratitude and send messages of thanks to teachers, while talking about future ambitions.
