Nobel Prize for literature goes to Kazuo Ishiguro
(MENAFN) English novelist Kazuo Ishiguro won the 2017 Nobel Prize for literature, acknowledged by the Swedish Academy for his "novels of great emotional force", in which the Academy said it had "uncovered the abyss beneath our illusory sense of connection with the world".
Choosing Ishiguro over the others was kind of a big surprise due to the nomination of other great names such as Margaret Atwood, Ngugi Wa Thiong'o and Haruki Murakami.
On the other hand, this year"s choice for literature was at least more familiar to the category than last year's choice which went for rock and roll singer and songwriter Bob Dylan.
Speaking to the BBC, he called the award a "magnificent honor, mainly because it means that I'm in the footsteps of the greatest authors that have lived".
