Qatar Petroleum President & CEO, and Chairman of Qatargas, Eng. Saad Sherida Al Kaabi has said oil and gas exports from Qatar remain uninterrupted despite being targetted by the blockade.
Speaking at an event in Japan, he said the measures by siege countries were aimed at interrupting export of hydrocarbons from Qatar in any way possible.
'Qatar's oil and gas business was targeted directly by the blockade. The measures were basically aimed at interrupting our export of hydrocarbons in any way possible, said Al Kaabi speaking at the annual Qatargas reception held in Tokyo in honour of Japanese partners and customers. 'Our reaction was clear and decisive. Qatar Petroleum and its group of companies immediately managed to absorb the initial impact of those measures, and were able to continue operating and export normally without any disruption across all our oil and gas facilities.
Al Kaabi voiced appreciation of the support by the wide spectrum of Japanese businesses during the ongoing blockade. 'We, in the State of Qatar, and particularly in the energy sector, place a very special emphasis on the more than four decades of cooperation, partnership and genuine friendship with Japan, he said.
'Our commitment to our Japanese partners and friends goes beyond the day-to-day business of supplying energy products. It is about sharing values and interests, and maintaining an honest and frank exchange of ideas and experiences, he added.
Concluding his remarks, Al Kaabi asserted Qatar Petroleum's commitment to maintaining its internationally renowned reputation of a safe, trustworthy, and reliable energy producer and supplier.
'We are moving forward exploring opportunities, enhancing our international partnerships, and strengthening Qatar's leading position as a major player in the global oil and gas industry. With this renewed determination comes a more determined desire not only to maintain but also to further develop our historic relations with our friends in Japan, he said.
Al Kaabi has returned to Doha at the end of a 2-day working visit to Japan, during which he held talks with senior executives of major Japanese energy companies on enhancing existing relations and cooperation.
He was accompanied on the visit and talks by a delegation of senior QP and Qatargas officials. The talks centered on developing relations and cooperation with Japanese customers and partner companies, particularly in the LNG trade. It included high-level discussions with Chairmen, Presidents, and senior executives of a number of Japanese corporations and companies including Chiyoda, JGC Corporation, Japan Bank for International Cooperation JBIC, JERA, Chubu Electric, Marubeni, Bank of Tokyo-Mitsubishi UFJ, Cosmo, Itochu, LNG Japan, Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation SMBC, Tohoku Electric, a number of shipping companies, and the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry.
The reception was attended by the ambassador of Qatar to Japan, members of the Arab and international diplomatic corps, the Mayor of Tokyo, government officials, and senior executives from the energy and banking sectors, as well as a number of Qatari students in Japan.
