(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency) Istanbul, Oct. 4 (Petra) -- Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Wednesday received Speaker of the Lower House of Parliament Atef Tarawneh and discussed with him Jordanian-Turkish relations and a number of Middle East issues.
The Turkish president renewed his invitation to His Majesty King Abdullah II to visit Turkey, stressing that his country and Jordan see eye-to-eye on a number of important regional issues, namely the Palestinian issue and the Syrian crisis.
Erdogan noted that he and His Majesty the King had emphasized, during their meeting in Amman, the importance of continuing supporting the Palestinian cause, stressing his country's support for the Hashemite guardianship over Muslim and Christian sites in Jerusalem.
On the Syrian issue, Erdogan stressed his country's support for efforts designed to bring about a ceasefire across Syria.
Tarawneh said both Jordan and Turkey share many views on the region's issues and added that the Kingdom appreciates Turkey's role in supporting the Palestinian cause and ending Israeli aggressions against the Palestinian people and its support for the Hashemite guardianship over Jerusalem's holy sites.
On Syria, the parliament speaker renewed Jordan's support for a political solution to the crisis as the only way to solve it and end the bloodshed.
Regarding the situation in Iraq, Tarawneh affirmed Jordan's support for Iraq's territorial integrity and its efforts to combat terrorism and extremism on its soil.
He also said that Jordan and Turkey have been grappling with major military, security and economic burdens due to the Syrian refugee crisis.
Tarawneh held talks with Turkish Prime Minister Binali Yildirim, Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu and Speaker of the Grand National Assembly (parliament) Ismail Kahraman.
