Ooredoo honoured for supporting sport


(MENAFN- Gulf Times) Ooredoo received the ‘Distinguished Company for Supporting Sport' Award at the Qatar Olympic Committee (QOC) ‘Sport Excellence Day 2017' yesterday. The prestigious annual event has been organised by QOC to honour the best athletes, sport officials, sport institutions, and government and non-government organisations for their contribution in boosting sport movement during the 2016-2017 season.
Ooredoo Group CEO Sheikh Saud bin Nasser al-Thani, along with a host of other senior executives from Ooredoo, attended the event where Ooredoo was honoured by QOC President HE Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad bin Khalifa al-Thani with an award for its ongoing support of all-levels of sport in Qatar.
As part of the company's commitment to encouraging people to live more healthy and active lifestyles, Ooredoo is a National Sponsor of the Qatar Olympic Committee and helped support a host of initiatives during the Rio 2016 Olympic Games, all Association of National Olympic Committees (ANOC) events, FINA/Airweave Swimming World Cup events, and the Artistic Gymnastics World Cup Series.
This year, Ooredoo also held a successful Ooredoo Marathon and National Sport Day event at MIA Park. Ooredoo's #OoredooSpeedTeam has also grown in the past year, with the company adding drivers Adel Hussain Abdulla, Mohamed al-Harqan, and Saeed al-Sulaiti to its growing sponsorship team.
Sheikh Saud said: 'Ooredoo is a major supporter of sport across all levels from the grassroots to national and international. We do this to not only give back to our customers and the country, but to work to encourage sports education and inspire the next generation of athletes for Qatar.
