Rayyan win over Ahli but Markhiya stun Sadd

(MENAFN- Gulf Times) Al Sadd were shocked by new boys Al Markhiya, while Al Rayyan notched a 2-0 win over Al Ahli on the second day of the QSL Cup yesterday.
Qatar international Sebastian Soria was the hero for Al Rayyan, netting once and producing a fine assist for his team's second goal as Michael Laudrup's boys made a winning start in the tournament. Soria, made a fine run from the left and found himself in perfect position to meet a pass before slamming the ball into the net from a slightly difficult angle in the 17th minute.
Al Ahli barely made an impact in the match and conceded their second goal with two minutes remaining for half time.
This time it was Soria who worked his way up the left flank before crossing to Abdulrahman al-Korbi, who slid in and directed the ball into the net from barely a couple of feet from the line.
Al Rayyan dominated the match and produced several scoring opportunities but bad luck prevented them from winning by a bigger margin.
Towards the final stages, Soria was in the thick of the action once again but his powerful header thudded into the post with the Al Ahli goalkeeper Mohamed Mubarak Dawood well and truly beaten.
Meanwhile, Al Markhiya scored through Mohamed Saleh Elneel in the 20th minute and Nasser Ibrahim in second half added time to stun Al Sadd.
Both teams fielded mostly under-23 and under-19 players in the tournament. The third match saw Umm Salal and Al Arabi play out a 1-1 draw.
