Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan's upcoming visit to Iran would deepen bilateral ties between the two neighboring countries and pave the way for maintaining security in the region, a Tehran-based expert told Trend.
'Both Iran and Turkey are regional powers and cooperation between Tehran and Ankara can help establish peace and security in the region,' Iranian political analyst Sadegh Maleki said.
He added that improvement in Tehran-Ankara ties would leave positive impact on regional issues and benefit regional countries.
The expert believes that Tehran seeks strengthening regional cooperation rather than strengthening its influence in the region.
Maleki also suggested that Tehran and Ankara share common interests in various spheres, including economic and energy issues, therefore such visits are capable of widening economic ties.
Iranian government spokesperson, Mohammad Bagher Nobakht, on the same day said that Erdogan's visit to Tehran targets expanding bilateral ties and cooperation in fight against terrorism.
Recep Tayyip Erdogan is expected to arrive in Tehran on Wednesday. The visit is taking place following recent developments in northern Iraq. Iran and Turkey both have expressed support for the territorial integrity of the Arab country.
